Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my first treatment?

You'll fill out a lengthy questionnaire before your appointment. You can fill this out ahead of time by downloading it from the New Client page on our website, or arrive 15-20 minutes early for your appointment to fill it out at the clinic.

Once the paperwork is complete, your acupuncturist will show you to a private treatment room and go over your paperwork with you.

Your acupuncturist will then feel your pulse and may look at your tongue to gather more diagnostic information.

You'll then be instructed to partially undress so your acupuncturist can access whatever points are needed.

After giving you a few minutes to get comfortable, your acupuncturist will return for your acupuncture session.

The session will last about half an hour, then the needles will be removed.

You may notice you feel a little light headed, more relaxed, and possibly a little spacey. This is normal.

After your session, avoid anything strenuous and drink plenty of water.

Does it hurt?

The closer we get to the fingers and toes, the more nerves there are and the more sensitive it will be, but you should never be in pain. If something is uncomfortable, please tell your acupuncturist. Everyone’s experience is different and your acupuncturist is relying on you to communicate yours. Common sensations include pressure, electricity, muscle twinges, numbness, or no sensation.

How deep do the needles go?

Most needles go into the skin from .5 inch to just over 1 inch.

Will insurance cover my treatment?

If your plan covers acupuncture and acupuncturists, we generally accept them. We have a guide so you know what to ask your insurance.

How often should I get acupuncture?

In a dream world, everyday, but that doesn't usually work here. We try to get people in 2-3 times a week, but most people can do once a week.
